Dangerously Defective Kenmore Ovens

Tuesday, August 04, 2015By ALG
Last week, The Safety Institute requested an investigation be conducted and a recall issued of Kenmore model 790 ovens due to defective doors. Already, there have been over 300 consumer reports of the glass doors on these ovens shattering during oven use and non-use. There have been many reports of the doors exploding while ovens are pre-heating, heating and during the self-cleaning mode. Some consumers have even had replacement doors shatter a second, third or fourth time after replacement. Complaints go back to March of 2011, yet very little has been done to protect the public from these defective ovens.

Exploding Oven Doors

While many of us are familiar with the traditional kitchen safety hazards like hot stoves and the potential for cooking fires, we don’t typically think of a closed oven as posing a serious safety risk. Unfortunately, in the case of Kenmore model 790 ovens, it can be dangerous just to stand next to these ovens, even if they’re not in use. Already, hundreds of complaints have been made about these oven doors exploding and shattering. Burns, cuts, bruises, abrasions and lacerations are possible when exploding and shattering glass is involved. Imagine if the door explodes while a small child stands nearby.

Product Liability in San Francisco

When you purchase a product, whether it’s a kitchen appliance or an automobile, you expect it to work properly and safely. We’re not talking about user error here either. We’re talking about products that pose a safety risk due to some kind of manufacturer or retailer negligence or design defect. Kitchens are dangerous enough without adding faulty and defective exploding ovens to the mix. Kenmore owes consumers a duty of safety, and should be held responsible if their negligence causes injuries, death and property damage.
