[music playing] [text] George Liu was driving a motorcycle, when an 18-uear-old hot rod driver made an illegal U-turn two card ahead of him on a curving road. George suffered a spinal cord injury that would leave him in a wheel chair for life. The insurance company for the U-turn driver that caused George to rear-end the van ahead of him refused to pay the $30,000 policy to a man with a lifetime personal injury. In need of help, George Liu turned to personal injury attorney Richard Alexander. This is their story. [George speaking] So Richard Alexander – a wonderful guy. In my short one year period of working with him he’s not only been a wonderful attorney, but he’s a caring, genuine, punctual, thorough person and now he is a friend. And I consider him to be as close as part of the family. When we first met – it was in the hospital, and he did go through everything with me and explained to me my options. But as time went on he was very supportive in rehabilitation, checking in with me. He had a strive and a caring to realize what really entailed when dealing with, you know, spinal cord injuries. He wanted to know the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I think he did a wonderful job explaining and relaying the message of what life is like being in a wheelchair and having spinal cord injury. He came to my house multiple times, checked in with me and I do appreciate greatly what he’s done for me. Even now, after the court case and everything, we still keep in touch. He was actually really gracious, he offered me a spot in his office to study when I returned back to San Jose State, and just things like that. It really helps, especially after a tragic accident. Prior to my injury when I went to school, or went to work, or went into the public I felt that I was part of my peers. Whereas after being injured I felt different, I felt alienated, I felt… I pretty much felt like a sore thumb or the odd duckling, you know, and I was really, really hesitant, and I really didn’t want to go back to school. But with Richard’s guidance and persistence I definitely returned back to school and my GPA was actually better after I got injured. So, I mean, I’m very thankful for that. Richard also got me back I’d say into society. He took me to fundraisers, he took me out, you know, to visit people in the hospital. He got me out of my rut. When Richard took me out, he made me realize that people still saw me as myself. Being in a wheelchair wasn’t, you know, a huge deal. I’m still able to go out, meeting people got easier, and slowly life got easier also. And with Richard’s guidance and my parents’ guidance I hope to continue chasing my ambitions and dreams. What happened with the court case was – we won, and it was a 4.5 million dollar case. And not only did it financially secure me, but it also gave me drive to continue pursuing things that, you know, I always dreamed of doing. And Richard Alexander helped me greatly not only once again financially, but I believe also spiritually. I mean things are a lot easier now that my future is a little bit more secure.
