The ACBIS offers three levels of certification: Provisional Certified Brain Injury Specialist, Certified Brain Injury Specialist, and Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer. These same certifications may be earned regardless of the area the person works in. For example, either a doctor or a nursing assistant may be certified in any of these areas.

After certification is obtained, the person must continue to meet annual training requirements in the field. Trainers have even more ongoing requirements, to ensure their knowledge level is adequate to train others in the field.
