Additional Polaris off-highway vehicles (ROVs) have been added to the initial recall involving defective and potentially fire-causing RZR and GENERAL ROVs. We have been following the Polaris ROV recalls since last September, when approximately 13,000 vehicle had been recalled over the past year due to the potential for fire hazard and burn injury to users. The initial recall, announced on the Consumer Products Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website, stated that a total of 19 incidents involving these ROVs catching fire were reported. In at least six of those initial incidents, burn injuries were reported including one case where a child was severely burned and about 15 acres of woodland were destroyed.
Additional ROVs Added to Polaris Fire Hazard Recall
Polaris model year 2016 and 2017 RZR 900, 1000, Turbo and GENERAL 1000 ROVs have been added to this recall. Where these ROVs are concerned, the engines can misfire causing the temperatures of the exhaust and nearby components to get too hot. This can cause the components to melt and/or a contaminated brake master cylinder may cause unintended brake drag, which can lead to a fire hazard and a potential for severe burn injury to users. What to do With Your Defective Polaris ROV
Although Polaris is supposed to contact all purchasers of these faulty ROVs directly, that isn’t always the case some of these defective part recalls. Don’t think that just because you haven’t gotten a postcard or notification of some kind that you’re in the clear. Check with the CPSC and with the manufacturer to determine if your vehicle is part of the recall. If you have one of these Polaris ROVs, stop using it immediately, and contact Polaris for a free repair.
