People who have suffered severe burn injuries typically face a long road to recovery. Burn treatment is a specialty that many emergency medical treatment facilities and doctors may not deal with very often. In these situations, medical personnel may need quick access to information about burn treatment.
The Journal Burns is the leading publication of authoritative information about burns and burn treatment. It publishes articles from researchers and medical practitioners sharing results of their studies and experiences. The Journal has been so inundated with submissions, however, that it is launching an international, online companion journal called Burns Open: An International Open Access Journal for Burn Injuries.
The new journal started publishing in February, 2017 and is free and available only online. Its efforts are in furtherance of the work of the International Society for Burn Injuries. The Editor-in-Chief is one of the country’s most notable experts in burn injury and surgery. David Greenhalgh, MD, is the Chief of Burns at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California, and Chief of the Burn Division for the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.
According to Dr. Greenhalgh, “Our goal is to publish articles that focus on the epidemiology of burns, . . . innovations in care, and reports of potentially novel treatments . . ..”
In addition to the treatment of burns, the Burns Open strives to report on other burn related issues such as the following:
- burn disasters;
- the impact of burns on societies;
- treatment of other skin conditions;
- the effects of smoke and cutaneous injury;
- occupational and Physical Therapy; and
Burns can wreak havoc on a person’s body and cause long-term adverse effects. The efforts of Burn and Burns Open are important to the improvement of burn prevention and treatment.
