Bayer Monsanto has agreed to settle lawsuits filed in the U.S. involving personal injury and wrongful death claims involving non-Hodgkins lymphoma caused by Roundup Weed Killer.
Financial terms are being kept confidential.
In spite of the planned settlement Bayer continues to deny liability.
Denial is consistent with all major chemical companies, especially for Bayer. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial records “the Bayer company was complicit in the crimes of the Third Reich. In its most criminal activities, the company took advantage of the absence of legal and ethical constraints on medical experimentation to test its drugs on unwilling human subjects.”
Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, which is a widely used herbicide throughout the United States and beyond, has been shown to increase the risk of a type of cancer known as non-Hodgkin lymphoma. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), glyphosate “probably” causes cancer, even though the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Bayer continue to maintain that it does not.
One study found that people who are exposed to high levels of glyphosate have a 41 percent higher risk of suffering non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma than people who are not exposed to the herbicide.
Approximately 80,000 claims have been filed against Bayer. The company is working on a global settlement structure in an effort to put a stop to multi-millions dollar verdicts levied by juries after hearing all the evidence presented in trial by plaintiff personal injury lawyers.
As part of a public relations effort, Bayer recently announced spending $5.6 billion to research and development for potential alternatives to glyphosate. That is long overdue.
Proving it is relative useless in fully protecting the public, the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) is urging consumers to always read and follow label instructions in addition to other health tips like keeping children and pets away from areas that are being sprayed.
Our advice is to avoid all herbicides and pesticides all the time. Remember they are “cides.” That means they kill. That is all you have to know.
