An auto accident Tuesday evening has left one man dead and another injured when their car hit a streetlight pole which was in front of Gunderson High School in San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Residents called 911 when they heard a loud crash just before 7 p.m., according to police Officer Jose Garcia. The first responders from the police and fire departments found two-door car crushed by the impact with the pole and the two men still inside.
Both victims remain unidentified at this time. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the passger taken to the hospital with unidentified injuries.
According to a fire official, the victim who died did not appear to be a high school student.
Police investigators believe that the driver lost control of the car as it traveled east on Chynoweth, but had not determined the exact cause.
