A Santa Rosa man has been arrested after leading police on chase that ended in a crash with another vehicle injuring himself and the other driver Wednesday according to the San Leandro Police Department.
The suspect, who who has not been identifed, led officers on a pursuit that shut down a section of East 14th Street between Harlan Street and Sybil Avenue for about 2 1/2 hours, yesterday afternoon.
At about 3 p.m., a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to pull over a 1995 Honda Accord that had been reported stolen. The suspect failed to stop and the pursuit began.
According to CHP Officer Daniel Jacowitz, shortly after the pursuit began the suspect attempted to pass a red 1992 Toyota pickup truck at Harlan Street and East 14th, driven by 28-year-old Jeremy Jacobs, of Berkeley.
The suspect driving the Honda collided with Jacob’s pickup and both vehicles, which sustained extensive damage, blocked the northbound lanes of traffic, according to the CHP.
The suspect ran fled the scene but officers were able apprehend and arrested him. He was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley to be treated for minor injuries. Mr. Jacobs was also transported to Eden Medical Center to be treated for more serious injuries, police said.
