San Francisco prosecutors charged Andrew Alan Vargas, 21, of Hayward Monday with felony counts of drunken driving and hit-and-run for an alleged rampage that critically wounded a 9-year-old boy visiting from suburban Philadelphia.
Vargas was charged with two counts of drunken driving causing injury and one count of hit-and-run causing injury as well as an allegation that he caused great bodily injury in Thursday night’s crash that injured Ryan White, 9, and injured his aunt.
Ryan and his aunt were walking back to their hotel after the Giants game when a 2004 Toyota Tundra struck them them at the corner of New Montgomery and Mission streets about 10:40 p.m. Police said Vargas fled the scene, returned and then left again, hitting several other cars.
Ryan is being treated at San Francisco General Hospital. Per his families wishes details of his condition have not been made public.
Vargas was found near his Hayward apartment and was arrested. He is scheduled to be arraigned today.
