Four workers at a San Francisco construction site were injured when they were hit by concrete as it was being poured today, according to a San Francisco Fire department spokesperson.
The accident happen an apartment building currently under construction 2235 Third St. near 19th Street at around 8:00 this morning, said Mindy Talmadge of the Fire Department.
Wet concrete being poured on the roof of the six story building fell on several workers who were on two floors below, covering them with the concrete. Two workers fell about 30 feet after being hit by the concrete, she said.
In all, four workers were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, three of those were in critical condition. The fourth suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Their names were not released.
Cal/OSHA inspectors and city building inspectors were immediately called to the scene to investigate the details of the accident. The workers were all employed by Nibbi Brothers General Contractors of San Francisco.
Previous inspection of the site by Cal/OSHA inspectors showed no violations.
