The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just issued a press release about defective bistro-style chairs from the popular home décor retailer Pier 1 Imports. According to the CPSC, Pier 1 Imports is recalling Neely and Dahlia Bistro Chairs due to a defect that can cause these chairs to fall apart, posing a fall risk for consumers. These bistro chairs were sold individually and in sets that included a table and two chairs. They were available in a wide variety of colors online and at Pier 1 Imports stores from January 2013 through July 2016.
Defective Pier 1 Imports Chairs
The connecting nuts and/or bolts between the legs and the base of Neely and Dahlia Bistro Chairs can come loose. This can cause the chair to become unstable, and even fall apart during use. If the nuts and/or bolts come loose while somebody is sitting in the chair, there is a significant fall hazard and risk for injury. At this time, Pier 1 Imports has received six reports of incidents involving these chairs. Of those incidents, there have been four reports of injuries from falls. If you have either of these bistro-style chairs, stop using them immediately and contact Pier 1 Imports for a remedy. They will send you a free repair kit.
Reporting Defective and Dangerous Products
Approximately 13,300 Neely and Dahlia Bistro sets and 700 individual chairs have been sold to consumers across the nation. If your Neely or Dahlia Bistro Chair has collapsed, loosened or broken apart during use, you need to file a report with the CPSC and let Pier 1 Imports know what happened. After any type of malfunction with a product, it’s essential to report the incident to the CPSC and to the product’s manufacturer. The only way investigations get initiated and recalls get conducted is through the diligence and care of concerned consumers and safety advocates. We’re counting on products to perform safely and as they’re designed. If they don’t, consumers are at risk for injuries or worse.
