STIHL PolyCut mowing heads exploded on trimmers, brush cutters and certain models of clearing saws.
The bolts connecting the plastic blades and holding the mowing head together loosen and the mowing head disintegrates causing serious personal injuries to users and bystanders. Approximately 73,000 units are being recalled.
Currently, this defective product recall includes mowing head cutting attachments compatible with some STIHL-brand model trimmers, brush cutters and clearing saws.
These mowing heads were originally sold between July of 2018 and July of 2019 for between $30 and $40. The mowing head has “STIHL” printed on it.
Model numbers “27-3” or “47-3” can be found on the original packaging and molded on the top side of the mowing head. These mowing heads have three orange plastic blades. They are attached with a bolt and nut, a black top housing and a white bottom housing.
If you have a SITHL trimmer, brush cutter or clearing saw, and you got it serviced or purchased a new mowing head for it over the last year or so, check to see if it’s one of the ones being recalled.
If you have one of these mowing heads, you need to stop using it immediately. Take it to authorized STIHL dealer for a full refund. This recall is being conducted voluntarily by STIHL, under the Consumer Products Safety Commisions’s Fast Track Recall process.
