ATV Accidents in California
More people die in ATV crashes in California than in any other state in the U.S. Between 1982 and 2011, there were 628 ATV crash related deaths in the State of California. At least 108 of those deaths that occurred between 1982 and 2007 involved children under the age of 16 years old. In many injury causing and fatal ATV accidents, the person who was killed or injured didn’t even own the vehicle. It’s important for all ATV owners to ensure the safety of any guests or visitors who may get the opportunity to ride an ATV.
ATV Safety in California
Consumers are reminded that ATVs are large, heavy and fast recreational vehicles. Anybody riding an ATV should know how to do so safely, and take all of the recommended safety precautions. Riding double, especially on one-person ATVs, is always discouraged, as it can change the center of gravity of the vehicle and make it more likely to tip, flip or roll on the riders. Riders are also discouraged from allowing children to ride on adult-sized ATVs and from riding on paved roads.
