Patricia Rothwell, 58, of San Jose was cited yesterday for running a red light, causing an accident that injured a family of four on Wednesday.
Rothwell, who was driving an SUV, ran a red light at Blossom Hill and Harwood Roads striking a Nissan on the drivers side door area, carrying four members of a family which included the couple and their twin 6-year-old daughters. All four were injured, including one of the 6-year-old girls who was ejected in the collision, this according to San Jose police.
According to police, Rothwell who was also injured in the accident, was cited and all five are recovering in hospital from mild to moderate injuries.
Although police cited Rothwell, she will not be charged because officers could not find any evidence of criminal intent, such as use of alcohol or drugs.
San Jose Police are looking into the possibility that there was a medical reason that Rothwell ran the red light. If it is determined by medical personnel was under medical distress at the time of the accident, it would be up to the judges discretion if the ticket was dismissed.
