In recent weeks authorities have increased drunken driving patrols and DUI/driver’s license checkpoints as part of a summer crackdown campaign. The increased-enforcement period, which is funded by state and federal funds, ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
During the campaign police agencies conducted several operations including a multi-agency effort that targeted drivers on Interstate 680. They also engaged in roving DUI saturation patrols, a warrant and probation sweep of repeat offenders and those with DUI warrants, sting operations targeting drivers with suspended licenses who drove to court hearings, and several DUI and driver’s license checkpoints.
Police and CHP officers in San Francisco have made 102 DUI arrests during the campaign.
In Santa Clara County, officers representing 15 law enforcement agencies made 343 DUI arrests between Aug. 20 and midnight Saturday, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Officers made 363 DUI arrests during the same period last year.
Law enforcement in San Mateo County has arrested 172 drivers for DUI offenses since Aug. 20, according to the Daly City police department.
At a checkpoint Friday night in Atherton officers screened 113 vehicles and made no DUI arrests. An injury accident Friday night in Pacifica is believed to have involved a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police.

Police departments from several Contra Costa County cities combined to arrest at least 280 motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during an annual summer “Avoid the 25” operation, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.
