The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) recently published an article on diagnosis and treatment of subarachnoid hemorrhage, which is a severe form of brain injury. These brain injuries typically occur with a loss of consciousness and are accompanied by a cranial bleed. The article found that research and randomized trials suggest that where treatment of aneurysms is concerned, endovascular intervention is preferable to open surgery. These types of injuries are diagnosed with computer tomography, CT angiography and/or catheter angiography.
Traumatic Brain Injury Research
New research involving traumatic brain injuries is emerging on a regular basis. From science regarding accurate and swift diagnosis to the latest and most effective treatments, the field of brain injury research is growing rapidly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that in 2010, 2.5 million TBIs occurred as either isolated injuries or along with other injuries. One of the most important things to know about newly emerging brain injury research is that treatment and recovery takes much longer than what was originally thought.
Traumatic Brain Injuries Caused by Car, Bicycle and Truck Accidents
A TBI can occur as a result of a blow, jolt or bump to the head. Depending upon the force and severity of your accident, your head doesn’t even have to connect with any other object to become injured. Even a severe jolt can cause your brain to move rapidly in your skull. Many TBIs are a result of car accidents, bicycle accidents and truck accidents each year. The severity of TBIs can also vary greatly. Some mild concussions and brain injuries can be recovered from in a matter of weeks or months. Others may leave patients with severe and lifelong injuries.
Invisible Injuries
Not all head injuries leave visible scars. TBIs are frequently referred to as “invisible injuries.” While a person may not look disabled or handicapped on the outside, he or she may be struggling with their traumatic brain injury on the inside every day. For this reason more than any other, people who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries in car, bike or truck accidents need lawyers who can listen to them and be their advocates.
