The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just reported on the renewed efforts to get the word out about defective dehumidifiers. Gree, the dehumidifier manufacturer for a variety of brand name appliance companies, just reannounced their recall following the news of 450 fires and $19 million reported in property damages associated with defective dehumidifiers from Frigidaire, SoleusAir, Kenmore and other popular brands. Since 2013, approximately 2.5 million of these defective dehumidifiers have been recalled due to posing serious fire and burn hazards to consumers.
Defective Dehumidifiers and Fire Hazard
The dehumidifiers in question are under recall because they can overheat. If these dehumidifiers overheat, there is the possibility of causing smoke or even catching fire, which can lead to serious property damage, burn injuries, smoke inhalation injuries and other potentially catastrophic injuries. At this time, there have been over 2,000 reported incidents of these dehumidifiers overheating. Approximately 450 fires have been reported that have resulted in about $19 million in property damage across the nation and in Canada. If you have one of these dehumidifiers, you should unplug it and quit using it immediately. Contact Gree for a full refund. These dehumidifiers were originally sold online and at various retailers including Home Depot, AAFES, Sears, Wal-Mart and Lowes.
