The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just issued a press release about a recall of H-E-B halogen light bulbs due to laceration and fire hazards. According to the press release, these GTC halogen light bulbs can shatter while in use in a lamp or light fixture. This can pose a serious risk of laceration and burn injury hazard to consumers. The recall was initiated on March 29, 2018, and at this time, there are about 2.5 million bulbs involved.
Defective and Dangerous Halogen Light Bulbs
Thankfully, no deaths have been associated with these defective light bulbs, but there have been 14 reports of these bulbs shattering while in a lamp or light fixture. At least one person has suffered from a laceration due to a shattered bulb. Another person has sustained burn injuries to his hand and lacerations to his foot.
Details of The Light Bulb Recall
The light bulbs involved in this recall are GTC halogen light bulbs. They were originally sold online and in H-E-B stores. Bulbs were sold in packages of two or four, and were available in 25 watt, 40 watt, 60 watt, 75 watt or 100 watt varieties. They could be purchased in either clear or soft white. The tops of the bulbs read “GTC” and were packaged in blue and red cardboard boxes. Check the CPSC’s press release for a full list of UPC codes of the light bulbs involved in this recall. If you have any of these light bulbs in your home, stop using them immediately. Return them to H-E-B for a full refund.
