Certain John Deere Gators have defective throttles that will jam open, causing a runaway that cannot be stopped. Because of a very serious risk of personal injuries and deaths, John Deere XUV835 Gator utility vehicles are being recalled.
Nearly 20,000 Gator vehicles have throttle cables that can melt due to improper routing, causing the throttle to jam. When this happens you cannot stop the vehicle and crashes are inevitable.
The John Deere XUV835 Gator utility vehicle in question was sold at John Deere dealers nationwide between November of 2017 through July of 2019. They were priced between $13,860 and $22,930. Consumers can find the model number “XUV835” printed on the hood, and “John Deere” and “Gator” are printed on the cargo box. They were sold in green and yellow, olive drab and camouflage and have side-by-side seating for two or three people.
If you think your Gator is one of the ones being impacted by this recall, check the serial number, which is located on the frame, above the right front tire. If you have one, stop using it immediately and contact a John Deer dealer for a free inspection and repair. Even though John Deere is contacting all known purchasers directly, it’s still a good idea to check your vehicle’s serial number, just in case.
