Certain models of Polaris Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) are being recalled due to fire hazards and the risk of severe burn injuries. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the engines in two Polaris ROV models can overheat and the drain tube on the turbo system can loosen, posing a fire hazard. The CPSC issued an alert that involves Polaris RZR XP Turbo and RZR XP 4 Turbo models. At this time, about 13,000 of these off-road vehicles have been recalled since December of last year.
Child Injured in ROV Fire
Since the CPSC recall alert was released, 19 incidents involving Polaris ROVs catching on fire had been reported. At least six of those cases involved burn injuries. In one case, a child was severely burned, and 15 acres of woodland was destroyed due to the fire. That particular fire happened in Utah’s American Fork Canyon. There has been no information on the current condition of the child or the extent of burn injury involved.
Polaris Defective ROVs
The ROVs in question were sold nationwide between August of 2015 to July of 2016. If you have a defective Polaris RZR XP Turbo or RZR XP 4 Turbo, you need to stop using it immediately and contact Polaris to schedule a free repair.
