Susan Gerlach, 56, was taken off life support Wednesday according to her husband Gary Gerlach.
Ms. Gerlach who worked at Stanford University‘s artificial intelligence lab and whose car was struck by another on Nov. 5 in Cupertino has died as a result of her injuries.
Her Prius had been struck by another car at Stevens Creek Boulevard and De Anza Boulevard about 6 a.m. She had been in a coma ever since.
The female driver of the other car has not been arrested or identified. Details of the accident have not been made public, although sheriff’s investigators were looking into the possibility that the driver may have run a red light.
According to Santa Clara County sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Cardoza, “they’re still working on the investigation,”
adding that the case has not been forwarded to the district attorney.
Gerlach, a retired physicist, said his wife worked at Stanford for more than 20 years, most recently as the manager of both the artificial intelligence and
computer science labs in the engineering department. The two met in her native Thailand, when his former firm, the Orion Group, hired her as the office manager.
There will be a memorial for her in January at the Saratoga Federated Church, so her relatives from Thailand have a chance to attend, he said.
