Los Gatos – An auto accident on state Highway 17 north of Los Gatos involving a Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputy caused a major traffic backup yesterday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about 9 a.m. Monday on southbound Highway 17 south of Blossom Hill Road, CHP Officer Brandie Dressel said.
A Toyota Celica driven by a 19-year-old woman collided with a Toyota Camry driven by a 60-year-old man in the No. 2 lane.
The impact pushed the Camry into the No. 1 lane, and a sheriff’s deputy in the No. 1 lane ended up T-boning the Camry, she said.
The deputy and the driver of the Camry were taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with minor injuries. The woman in the Celica was not injured.
Both southbound lanes of the highway were shut down for about 20 minutes after the crash, Short said. All lanes were reopened at 10:07 a.m.
